ZZZ Sunna: Who Can Refuse a Tearful Composer Genius?

by ZZZLucien 08 Mar 2026

Who would have thought that every update of Zenless Zone Zerocould make Proxies "feast until we're stuffed"? The arrival of the Angels of Delusion has brought so many rewards! Naturally, I must keep covering the Angels of Delusion. As a team design that faithfully captures the original essence of Zenless Zone Zero, what brilliant design ingenuity have they showcased? Today, let's first take a look at the "little crybaby" idol among them - Sunna.

1. ZZZ Sunna - Unique Appearance

If we talk about the first impression of Sunna, the biggest difference compared to the other two members is undoubtedly her costume design. Compared to the flashy idol stage outfits, Sunna's clothing at first glance seems like just an ordinary school uniform. But this ordinariness precisely allows for the extraordinary; it represents the reserved and modest attitude of a student, creating the most dramatic contrast with an idol on stage.

ZZZ Sunna

Based on the JK uniform style, paired with a puffy short skirt and long socks, it retains a youthful, schoolgirl sense of innocence. But the skirt also holds its subtleties. The black skirt contrasts with the white uniform on the surface. In reality, skirts mostly fall downwards to provide movement lines. However, Sunna's puffy skirt has a bit of a ballet tutu feel, giving an upward movement line, so even the static artwork has a sense of motion, and this motion is one of the characteristics of an idol's singing and dancing.

Additionally, the pink sleeves soften the structured feel of the school uniform, adding cuteness and a stage performance quality; the black collar detail around the neck adds more intricacies.

The bow element, as a unifying visual motif for the group, repeatedly appears on the costume, waist, and bubble machine, emphasizing cute, girlish traits. The wings on the back are the core symbol of the Angels of Delusion group, while the necktie, as part of the school uniform, continues to reinforce these two layers.

Just from her outfit, Sunna's design is excellent and well-balanced. The idol's glamour subtly harmonizes with the student's innocence, hinting at an immature yet striving-to-grow character. A single glance reveals the dual identity overlay of an ordinary schoolgirl and a stage idol.

Of course, the color palette of the outfit is very idol-like. Eschewing complex color clashes, it uses pink, green, and white as the core foundation. Pink, as the outermost display color, runs through major components like the sleeves, bell-shaped ornaments, bubble machine, and backpack, outwardly showcasing the girl's purity and the inherent sweetness of an idol.

Green is applied to her hair color. The light green chosen for the bows visually conveys a fresh, unconventional feeling, easily evoking a sense of vibrant growth. White, placed on the clothing and wings, serves well as a transitional element, enhancing the character's sense of purity and also echoing the angel theme.

I never expected Sunna's appearance to actually be a maid outfit. This undoubtedly further breaks away from the schoolgirl feel. As a Proxy, would you buy this outfit?

2. ZZZ Sunna - Name and Core Essence

Sunna, whose origin is likely the sun goddess in Norse mythology, the daughter of the jötunn deity Sól, who governs the movement of the sun. After Ragnarök, she succeeds to the divine role, driving the sun chariot to bring light to the reborn earth. This name may be connected to the storyline. Perhaps precisely because Sunna is the first member to debut, she represents the Angels of Delusion bringing sun-like radiance to the audience and to New Eridu.

As mentioned earlier, as a character existing since the game's launch, the design philosophy of Zenless Zone Zero's origins is clearly visible in the Angels of Delusion characters, especially prominent in Sunna, embodying strong retro and utilitarian aesthetics. The device in Sunna's hands combines a common loudspeaker and a bubble machine, capable of both recording and combat. This unexpected combination is also an area rich in technological imagination.

In Sunna's character EP, her phone appears. Its model is based on the Nokia 7600, a relic from 2003. As the latest 3G phone of its time, its design was quite avant-garde, and it even promoted the ability to switch colored faceplates, featuring personalized symbols.

Attached to Sunna's waist is a Tamagotchi—Bandai's electronic pet game device, which once sparked a worldwide craze. It's mentioned in her character profile that Sunna has an electronic pet that helps out during battles.

What we need to highlight is the small backpack she wears, a true super-retro item. The symbols on the small backpack aren't just a simple keyboard; they belong to a rare Music Notation Machine. Similar to writing, music notation composition evolved from handwriting to printing and then to convenient machine input. Missionary Walton invented the Walton Music Notation Machine around 1923. The machine could draw staff lines, musical notes, symbols, and even text; it could be operated without specialized knowledge, allowing the user to see the printed sheet music. It cost 200-300 USD at the time, and its circular keyboard gave it a unique appearance. Unfortunately, the market for music notation machines was too niche, and today they can only be found in the hands of some collectors.

Sunna's backpack features the classic layout of a music notation machine. The numbers written on it, as Sunna says, represent the three members of the Angels of Delusion, which add up to the beautiful, dreamlike 3/4 time signature. In music, 3/4 time is strong-weak-weak, a rhythm that creates a fluid, melodic sense and often inspires a physical urge to move. In terms of auditory feeling, 3/4 time usually conveys an elegant, classical temperament with a distinct dance-like quality, corresponding to their idol identity of singing, dancing, ordinary dreams, and idol charm.

The depth of Sunna's design echoes the core traits of idol culture while also expressing differentiation. The mix of school uniform and idol costume, to some extent, hints at the dual life of everyday school and stage dreams, allowing the audience to resonate with the idea that ordinary people can also chase their dreams.

Zenless Zone Zero Angels of Delusion

As the composer, Sunna originally fulfilled more of a behind-the-scenes creative role. Being pushed into the spotlight makes her appear clumsy and inexperienced, yet there's no sign of giving up—only continuous effort to seek recognition and let her own light shine.

In this era, people often don't idolize perfection anymore. Conveying that effort is more important than talent, this clumsy yet steadfast quality is precisely the core of idol culture and easily triggers emotional projection from fans. The character design visualizes the "abstract" identity of music creation into tangible symbols. It gives a sense of transforming music's healing power into supportive abilities in battle, embodying the artistic force that resists darkness.

ZZZ Angels of Delusion

It's worth noting that the wings on Sunna's back are attached to the keys of the music notation machine backpack. This feels like the development team imbued it with the vision that "creation is the wings of music, capable of carrying each person soaring into the sky."

We believe that Zenless Zone Zero, with the continuous efforts of the three pairs of wings belonging to the "Angels of Delusion," can soar towards a better future in 2026. Finally, we hope everyone can bring the three little members of the "Angels of Delusion" home completely. Remember to keep following 141store. See you next time!
