Zenless Zone Zero Names pt. 3: Interesting Names Hiding in ZZZ

As We've already parsed most of the agents and enemies' names in the previous two articles about "Names" in Zenless Zone Zero. But for the meticulous ZZZ production team, the PVs, game text and even the names of the NPCs all refer to a large number of myths or stories. These names are hidden in the "corners" of the game, so let's discover them together!

1. Zenless Zone Zero NPC Names

1.1 "Shepard"

In one of the game's many missions, we helped a user named "Shepard" complete a mission. Does the name "Shepard" sound familiar?

"Shepard" is the protagonist of "MASS EFFECT 1-3", whose gender, appearance and biography can be set by the player. In the game, the player can use his strong diplomatic skills to resolve inter-ethnic conflicts, infiltrate and destroy the enemy, and fight against threats from the Overlords, Collectors, and Reapers.

1.2 "Casper"

ZZZ Casper

Casper was one of the Three Wise Men of the East, who are said to have visited Bethlehem at the time of the birth of Jesus Christ and offered gold, frankincense, and mordant as gifts to the newborn Jesus. The Three Wise Men of the East are described in the New Testament as Casper, Melchior and Balthasar.

1.3 "Enzo"

I'm sure Uncle Enzo is no stranger to everyone, and one of the most memorable scenes is when he's driving a red car. What is the origin of his name and "automobile"?

"Enzo Anselmo the Commendatore Ferrari is an Italian racing driver and automobile manufacturer who created the Ferrari brand, one of the most famous luxury sports car manufacturers in the world. The brand is one of the most famous manufacturers of luxury sports cars in the world and has a long and illustrious history in motor racing, especially in Formula One.

1.4 "Mockingbird"

In the episode where we learn about Lycaon, the character "Mockingbird" is mentioned in the animation, what does Mockingbird mean and what kind of character does it portray?

The Mockingbird is a famous bird "singer" with a varied voice, and is often used to describe innocence and purity, the most famous example being Harper Lee's novel "To Kill a Mockingbird".

In the book, the children are told that "Kill a Mockingbird" is a sin, because they are pleasing humans with their beautiful songs and causing no harm. This symbolism is used throughout the book to represent those who are innocent and suffer from injustice.

1.5 "Ophelia"

ZZZ Ophelia

The name "Ophelia" is most famously derived from one of Shakespeare's four great tragedies, "Hamlet", in which Ophelia is the love interest of Hamlet, who is pure and kind, but Hamlet kills her father. This leads to Ophelia's grief and eventual mental breakdown, and she tragically falls into the water and dies.

1.6 "Roland"

ZZZ Roland

Roland was a legendary knight of medieval France, one of the 12 paladins of Charlemagne. His story is widely sung, especially in the French epic poem "Rolandskvadet".Roland was known for his loyalty, courage and martial skills. He fought bravely at the Battle of Ronsvogu and was eventually killed for his treachery.

His horn "Olifant" and his sword "Durandal" are famous items in the legend.

1.7 "Chop"

ZZZ Chop

Using the word "chop" as his name is a fitting tribute to his status as a chef.

2. Zenless Zone Zero Area & Events

2.1 "Janus District"

Janus District

"Janus" is the god of doors in Roman mythology, symbolizing the beginning of the portal shift and the passage of time. He is usually depicted as a god with two faces, one facing forward to represent the future and the other facing backward to represent the past. This unique two-faced form symbolizes his total insight into time and his ability to control all portals.

As a symbol of beginnings and endings, "Janus" played an important role in Roman daily life and religious practices. The Romans would pray to Janus before starting anything new, and the word "January" originated from his name, as this month marked the beginning of a brand new year.

2.2 "Crete Hollow"

What does the name Crete Hollow mean as a Hollow that was mentioned in an earlier episode?

Crete is the largest Greek island, located in the southern part of the Aegean Sea. The island is not only an important tourist destination in Greece, but also has a rich historical and cultural heritage. One of the most famous is its Bronze Age civilization and the Minotaur civilization, where the great labyrinth that held the Minotaur was most likely used to describe the varied complexity of the Hollow. It was one of the earliest advanced civilizations in Europe, a civilization civilized by its palace complexes, elaborate ceramic carvings and frescoes. The most famous of these sites is the "Palace of Knossos".

2.3 "New Eridu"

The ruins of an ancient city in Iraq, "Eridu", founded during the Sumerian period, is a very important city in the ancient Mesopotamian civilization, and is often considered to be the earliest city on earth, with a history dating back to around 5400 BC.

In Sumerian, Eridu means "powerful place" and is also referred to as the "City of Coppersmiths" in the literature. The Sumerian Table of Kings begins "After the kingship descended from heaven, the kingship was in Eridug". Their creation myth also mentions that "At first, there was nothing in the world; then there was a city-Eridu." In its heyday, Eridu was the great melting pot of culture and diversity of its time.

2.4 "Vulcan Industrial Area"

In Roman mythology, "Vulcan" was the god of fire and the forge, one of the 12 main Roman gods. His father was "Jupiter", the king of the gods. His wife was the goddess Venus. He is usually depicted as a crippled blacksmith, but possessed great skill in forging, and almost all the divine weapons in the hands of the gods were made by him. For example, Apollo's chariot of the sun, Cupid's golden arrow and Jupiter's shield.

2.5 "Scott Outpost"

What is the significance of the outpost named "Scott"?

Robert Falcon Scott, often referred to as "Captain Scott" and known for his leadership of Antarctic expeditions. He is known to the British as one of the great heroes of the age of exploration in the early 20th century.

In 1901, Scott undertook his first Antarctic expedition, and although the team did not reach the South Pole they collected a great deal of scientific data and explored uncharted areas.In 1910 Scott set sail again, ready to be among the first to reach the South Pole.On January 17, 1912, Scott and his crew reached the South Pole but they found that Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen's team had already arrived a month earlier.

On the way back, due to extreme weather and physical exhaustion, Scott and four other team members were killed in quick succession. Although Scott's expedition ended in tragedy, his courage and perseverance are still widely praised. The hardships of the expedition and the sacrifices of the team were detailed in his journals and letters. These documents have since been made public, deepening people's understanding of polar exploration.

2.6 "Metis"

On Inter-Knot, a user mentioned "Metis" College, what is the story of this name?

Metis is the first wife of Zeus, the first goddess of wisdom in ancient Greek mythology. According to the myth, Zeus was predicted that his first child would overthrow him. Therefore, when he learned that Metis was pregnant, he swallowed Metis whole.

Later Zous feels a severe headache, which causes the head to split open, and at the same time Athena, clad in armor and armed with a spear and shield, leaps out of his skull.

2.7 "Colt's Art of Expliosion"

A user named "Colt's Art of Expliosion" once contacted us, who specialized in bombs! Why is that?

"Samuel Colt" was an inventor and industrialist who founded the Colt Manufacturing Company in 1855, a famous American firearms manufacturer. The company is known worldwide for its innovative designs and production of high-quality pistols, rifles and machine guns.

2.8 "Hollow Zero- Limbo"

Hollow Zero-Limbo

Limbo is a place in the Christian religion where mortals reside after death, and in the original Catholic teachings it refers to the area between heaven and hell. Souls who were not judged but were not blessed to share heaven with God lingered here.

Later the Catholic Church changed this concept and saw it as the first level of hell. Sinful souls will be judged here.

3. PV Information & Others

3.1 "Rosetta Data"

In 1799, the French army discovered and named the Rosetta Stone in the Egyptian town of Rosetta, which was inscribed with versions of the same text in three different languages: ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, Egyptian cursive, and ancient Greek. The tablet was crucial to deciphering ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, as it provided the corresponding texts in the three languages, allowing scholars to decipher these ancient texts. It is currently housed in the British Museum.

3.2 "Cylon"

The Cylon are a fictional race from the science fiction television series Battlestar Galactica, a critically acclaimed modern science fiction series that originally premiered in 1978 and was rebooted in 2004.In the 1978 version, the Cylon are a race of robots created by humans to assist them in war.

In the 2004 version, the Cylons became more complex and diverse. They include not only robotic forms, but also organic lifeforms that are virtually indistinguishable from humans.

3.3 "Scepter Army"

"Scepter Army" is a military term that usually refers to specialized officers who are not part of the regular officer corps in the armies of certain countries. These officers usually belong to a specific technical or professional field.

3.4 "May Flower"

When we talked about the videotape Nicole watched, we mentioned the name "May Flower" in the videotape. The name doesn't sound like a made up name, so what does it mean?

The May Flower was an English sailing ship launched in 1615, and on September 6, 1620, it carried a crew of 102 men, women and children. The ship set sail from Plymouth, England to Massachusetts in the United States today. Of these, 35 were Puritans and 67 were strangers.

With the independence of the United States, the ship became famous. The May Flower was not the first immigrant ship to sail from England to North America but it is the most famous. It was on this ship that the secessionist Puritans came to North America to establish the Plymouth Colony and establish the May Flower Convention. The "May Flower" and the May Flower settlers have an important place in American history and culture, and are seen as symbols of the particularity and determination of the early settlers of the United States.

3.5 "Helios Academy"

Zenless Zone Zero Helios Academy

Helios was the god of the sun in ancient Greek mythology, Helios meaning sun in Greek. He was the son of Uranus, the god of the sky, and Gaia, the goddess of the earth.

Helios was portrayed as a handsome man wearing a purple robe and a golden crown of the sun. He traveled daily in the sky from east to west on a chariot of the sun drawn by four fiery horses, rising in the morning and setting out at night to bring light to the world. It is worth noting that Helios is Phaethon's father.

That's all there is to know about the interesting names in Zenless Zone Zero. Not only do we get to know the origin of the names of the characters and enemies, but we also get to see the care taken by the ZZZ production team in different "corners" of the game, and even in the details of the official PV.
