ZZZ Version 3.4 Sunbringer Mechanics: Frame-by-Frame Analysis of Gamep

Zenless Zone Zero released Sunbringer's gameplay demo the day before yesterday, but since teasers for two collab characters, Robin and Kafka, were also dropped, the analysis of Sunbringer's gameplay demo can only be brought to you today. Sunbringer is three in one — what mechanics does she actually have?

Today we'll do a frame-by-frame analysis of Sunbringer's gameplay demo, and see what each of her skills looks like and what mechanics she might have~

Entry Animation

It opens with Dracaene looking down in thought, then Lindverne rolls her wrists and gets ready to fight, and finally the camera cuts to Eldreda holding her flag-spear, as imposing as ever. In the battle entry animation, the three Sunbringers appear in order from smallest to largest, and all of them make an appearance.

Eldreda's Basic Attack

On entering, the default form is the big Sunbringer, Eldreda, who performs a Basic Attack string — judging by eye, a four-hit attack.

Eldreda's Dodge

Eldreda's Perfect Dodge. The dodge animation is very crisp.

Dracaene's Counter Assist

Sunbringer has the Armorer role, so naturally she has the Counter Assist mechanic, and Sunbringer's counter animation is left to the small Sunbringer, Dracaene — after all, she is the one holding a shield. Watching the small Sunbringer take that much pressure, once you actually get your hands on her, you'll have to click the mouse a bit faster.

Eldreda's Enhanced Basic Attack

After Dracaene's Counter Assist it switches back to Eldreda, who seems to perform something like an enhanced Basic Attack, and finally sets her spear upright in a very cool flag-unfurling move. If the flag could actually unfurl, it would feel even more amazing.

Robin's Entry Attack

After switching to Robin, judging by eye she doesn't use any skill, so it is most likely just Robin's entry attack. Robin's buff-applying move pays homage to Marilyn Monroe's classic pose — absolutely gorgeous!

Eldreda's EX Special Attack, Switch to Lindverne

Eldreda uses her EX Special Attack, and the second half automatically switches to Lindverne. From here you can roughly tell the division of labor among the three Sunbringers: Eldreda and Lindverne are both main attackers, switching automatically through skills, while Dracaene is in charge of the defensive part.

Dracaene's Defensive Assist

The yellow-flash parry section is still Dracaene's part — a three-hit parry chain! But it is worth noting that there is no teammate switch during the three parries, which shows that Sunbringer's yellow-flash parry can be triggered on her own, without needing a teammate to rotate in.

Lindverne's Assist Follow-Up

Before Dracaene's parry it was Lindverne on the field, so the Assist Follow-Up released after the parry is also Lindverne's.

Sunbringer's Decibel Ultimate, Lindverne Applies Daze

She activates the Decibel Ultimate — the three Sunbringers join forces to perform the Ultimate, and then Lindverne uses some unknown skill to put the enemy into Daze, though the first Daze was cancelled.

Lindverne's EX Special Attack Applies Daze, Switch to Eldreda

Lindverne uses her EX Special Attack to put the enemy into Daze again, then automatically switches to Eldreda! Here you can see that although Sunbringer is the one standing on the field, Sunbringer's portrait still appears in the Chain Attack window, which shows that Sunbringer has the ability to trigger her own Chain Attack.

Eldreda's Chain Attack

The Chain Attack is performed by Eldreda; in battle it is still the two main attackers Eldreda and Lindverne launching the Chain Attack together, and then the Chain Attack window pops up again — this time what lights up is Robin and Norma. It seems the officially endorsed Sunbringer team is exactly these three.

Eldreda's EX Special Attack, Switch to Lindverne

The third Chain Attack is cancelled, Eldreda uses her EX Special Attack, and then automatically switches to Lindverne! Here you can see the mechanic of Sunbringer's EX Special Attack: the two of them attack together and it automatically switches to the other one.

Sunbringer's Karma Core Ultimate, Battle Ends

In the last part of the video, Sunbringer releases her Ultimate again, but the form is different from the first ultimate. Here we speculate it is the same mechanic as Yixuan's spell ultimate — the Karma Core ultimate! This Ultimate segment is not played to the end, so you cannot see the final damage frame.

To sum up: Sunbringer has self-parry and self-chain mechanics, and also has two Ultimate forms, most likely relying on two different kinds of energy. As for the division of labor among the three Sunbringers, the big and mid Sunbringers, Eldreda and Lindverne, are both main attackers, while the small Sunbringer Dracaene is mainly responsible for the Assist part.
