ZZZ Sigrid: Interesting Details Behind the Serious

by ZZZLucien 25 Aug 2026

This is the most serious character in ZZZ. Dare you stare into his eyes for three seconds! Just in case everyone got dizzy from the new mode and forgot that Sigrid has been out for a few days. I'm here to quickly remind you — in this issue, let's talk about some interesting cultural details about Sigrid!

ZZZ Sigrid

Sigrid — Name Cultural Etymology

First, Sigrid's full name is Sigrid de L'Azur. Both parts reveal something interesting when broken down. "Sigrid" is taken from the Valkyrie Sigrdrífa in Norse mythology. The name derives from Old Norse roots, meaning victory, battle, triumph on one hand, and beauty, peace on the other.

In the Norse epic "Edda" and Norse sagas, Sigrdrífa is consistently described as someone with a strong and upright personality, who holds firm to her principles and does not blindly follow authority — matching the in-game Sigrid perfectly.

As for "de L'Azur," it seems reasonable to speculate that it is a fictional noble surname, likely derived from the medieval system of hereditary noble families. After all, the story establishes that the de L'Azur family has guarded Roscaelifer for generations — corresponding to the tradition of nobles holding fiefs at borderlands and serving in the military generation after generation.

Sigrid — Symbolism of the Centaur Design

Now let's look at the meaning behind her being a Thiren with horse features. Sigrid's iconic horse ears, long tail, and hooves are the core identifying traits of the character.

The centaur is a classic warrior symbol in Western classical art, representing bravery, hunting, and battle. In the medieval chivalric system, the warhorse was also a symbol of a knight's honor, loyalty, and strength. Sigrid carrying horse characteristics can be understood as her herself being the warhorse charging into battle, bearing the mission of protection.

Sigrid — Equipment Design

Speaking of weapons for a centaur warrior, the first thing that comes to mind is definitely the lance. In reality, it was a long cavalry weapon used exclusively by European cavalry and knights. In combat, the rider drove the mount toward the enemy, pointed the lance at the target upon approach, and struck with the momentum of the charge.

Lances were often paired with shields. To highlight technological advancement, we can see that Sigrid's shield has evolved into a retractable decoration on her left arm, shaped like flower petals. Her left arm also reflects the style of Western Gothic knight plate armor, featuring segmented shoulder guards and layered arm pieces.

In terms of color, the palette matches classical knight symbolism: white represents purity and clarity, while blue represents the sky and justice.

Sigrid — Personality Contrast

We all know that the Middle Ages had eight great virtues: courage, loyalty, honor, mercy, justice, sacrifice, honesty, and humility. You can see traces of all of them in Sigrid. However, with such a classical design, the development team keenly picked up on the sense of disconnect that comes from being too retro, which also made her an "ancient person." She strictly adheres to etiquette, has sharp instincts but a quirky way of thinking — giving her a naturally endearing clueless charm.

Unlike Cissia's clever foolishness, Sigrid's serious and calm demeanor actually stands out more in relaxed settings. This summer event showed us the unique contrast of Sigrid as this ancient person.

I wonder if you'll pull for her after learning all this! Remember to keep following our articles and in-site merchandise. See you next time!
