Zenless Zone Zero Yixuan: The Lord of Yunkui, What Are Master's Secrets?

by ZZZLucien 17 Jun 2025

As the anniversary approaches, our Zenless Zone Zero has already stepped into the brand-new 2.0 update ahead of schedule. The new storyline, map, and characters are absolutely dazzling! How much Primos have you saved? Have you begun venturing into Yunkui Summit? Today, follow our article to explore the mysteries of Master Yixuan, Lord of Yunkui Summit, and discover the Chinese cultural essence she embodies.

1. Yixuan's Costume Design in Zenless Zone Zero

As the leader of Yunkui Summit on the Waifei Peninsula, Master Yixuan's striking presence demands attention-first through her outfit's design. Visibly apparent upon entering the deeply Chinese-inspired Waifei Peninsula is how Zenless Zone Zero retains its signature streetwear edge, blending traditional motifs with modern aesthetics.

Overall, Yixuan epitomizes Waifei's style, evident in her color palette. Culturally, aligning with Daoist traditions, her costume's dominant colors carry profound symbolic weight: "Radiant Gold" and "Profound Black." Let's analyze these hues.

ZZZ Yixuan

Imperial Gold in Daoism embodies "Central Earth Virtue" and "Sacred Authority." Its core traits manifest as:

  1. "Harmonizing Virtue" - Corresponding to the Five Elements' Earth, symbolizing nurturing benevolence and central balance.
  2. "Color of Authority" - Proxies versed in Chinese history will recognize gold as the imperial hue representing supreme value. Though Daoism isn't political, it adopts gold's authority to sanctify rituals. Culturally, gold also signifies longevity-a core Daoist pursuit.

Profound Black, termed "玄墨(Auric Ink)" for Yixuan, carries Daoist philosophy of "Formless & Namelessness." Its abyssal visual metaphor represents the universe's primordial chaos and the meditative state of "embracing emptiness." If Imperial Gold epitomizes Yang's zenith, Profound Black embodies Yin's depth-perfectly reflecting Yin-Yang synergy.

Yixuan's palette blends gold, white, and black with her silver hair, creating distinct tonal zones. Her jacket modernizes Daoist robes' signature oversized sleeves with wide cuffs. Tailored with lightweight fabrics and zippered sleeve slits extending to the arms, the design preserves traditional flow while enabling combat flexibility. This synergy generates dynamic tension during movement.

2. Details of Yixuan's Design in Zenless Zone Zero

Zenless Zone Zero Yixuan Taiji

The dev team infused Yixuan's costume with painstaking details reflecting Daoist culture. Wherever buttons appear, they form Taiji symbols-elements needing no elaboration. As the Book of Changes states: "Taiji generates Liangyi, Liangyi generates Sixiang, Sixiang generates Bagua." Taiji's intrinsic link to Daoism embodies adherence to cosmic principles and natural laws.

Hanging from her waist is the quintessentially Chinese longevity locket. In war-torn eras, children wore these locks to "secure life"-warding off plague and disasters. People believed the "longevity locket" ensured safe growth through tribulations.

"Coins" rank among Yixuan's most eye-catching accessories. Three coins tied with red thread adorn her legs and back. In Chinese tradition, "three" signifies luck-symbolizing wholeness and fulfillment. Both coins and red threads ward off evil spirits. Furthermore, three coins (round with square holes) enable "Fortune Coin Divination"-assigning yin/yang to each side to determine fortunes through casting. This directly reflects Yixuan's fortune-telling scenes in the Plaza District.

Zenless Zone Zero Yixuan gourd

Additionally, a gourd hangs on her back-a staple Daoist ritual implement. In China, gourds represent blessings, evil purification, and protection. Legends depict Daoist masters carrying gourds to signify profound wisdom and boundless cultivation, imbuing them with mysticism. Thus, gourds symbolize Daoists' pursuit of immortality and transcendence.

3. Cultural Significance Behind Yixuan's Companion Bird in Zenless Zone Zero

Since we're discussing Yixuan, how can we overlook her companion bird? This adorable creature transforms into a majestic form during combat. Named "Qingming", its napping drool was even harvested by senior disciple Pan Yinhu for "bird's nest soup" (culinary ingenuity). The term "Qingming" frequently appears in classical Chinese poetry, primarily denoting the "boundless azure sea"-aptly mirroring the bird's unfathomable power.

I posit its cultural prototype traces to the Golden Crow of Chinese myth: a three-legged black raven dwelling within the sun, encircled by golden radiance. Originally depicted with two legs in early myths, it evolved into a tri-pedal form by the Western Han dynasty.

Golden Crow

Its obsidian feathers with solar-gold accents strikingly mirror Qingming's design. Within the Daoist pantheon, the Golden Crow serves as both the solar crown emblem of the Eastern Celestial King and the divine messenger of the Western Queen Mother. Symbolizing the "Sun" itself, this avian archetype resonates with us Proxies' Phaethon identity-descendants of the sun. This profound connection likely explains our journey to the Waifei Peninsula, seeking apprenticeship under Yixuan. In Zenless Zone Zero's universe, solar essence manifests as unfathomable Ether energy.

4. Zenless Zone Zero Yixuan: Battling with Ink

Returning to "Auric Ink"-its "Auric" symbolism explained earlier-we must delve into China's quintessential ink. Recall how Qingming's charge in Version 1.7 resembled splashed-ink brushwork: bold, fluid, and untamed. This visual language powerfully conveys Yixuan's prowess as a Void Hunter.

Ink's relevance extends to Yixuan's narrative. Most notably in her talismanic seals (符箓), where rituals invoke deities to imbue seals with spiritual power by harmonizing yin-yang. Ink serves as the divine conduit, bridging mortal and celestial realms.

The 2.0 launch trailer opens with Master Yixuan's calligraphy. Likely influenced by her talisman-crafting, her strokes echo talismanic structures. The inscription-"Well Begun, Well Ended"-reminds us that perseverance outweighs auspicious beginnings, reflecting Yixuan's life philosophy.

This concludes the cultural insights gathered from observing Yixuan. I hope this knowledge enriched your understanding! I'm certain Proxies can't wait to revisit Yixuan with fresh perspective. Stay tuned for more Version 2.0 articles and merchandise!
