Zenless Zone Zero Harumasa: Human? Ethereal? Do you really understand the details in Harumasa's PV?
"Happy Birthday...Congrats on making it this far..."
With Zenless Zone Zero 1.4 version just around the corner, let's turn our attention to Hollow Special Operations Section 6, where it seems every member has a mysterious and reluctant past to talk about.
In the description of Asaba Harumasa, it seems that Harumasa has been suffering from a long-term illness and medication that prevents him from sleeping. But is it really only illness that affects Harumasa? Is he a human being or an Ethereal? Let's discover the story of Harumasa from the details of his demo.
1. The First Woke Up
In the opening of the story, the traffic light is located in the center of the screen and is about to turn from yellow to red. In reality, the yellow light in a traffic light signifies a warning, and the flashing yellow light signifies that it is about to go red. At this time, the picture is also in red as the main color. From this, we can guess that the traffic light is suggesting that Harumasa is about to enter the same dangerous stage as the red light.
In the next image, the little boy standing in the rain and crying is Harumasa as a child. we can tell this by combining it with the official image released earlier, as they are wearing the same hospital gown.
In some cultures, the white raven is considered to be a symbol of good luck and a sign of good fortune and prosperity to come. However, in some other cultures, the white raven may be seen as an ominous bird, symbolizing disaster and misfortune. This also means that the white raven has been a paradoxical being since its inception.
If we brighten up the next scene, we will see that the date is July 18th. There is a loud thunderstorm outside the tightly closed curtains.
Harumasa had nine pills on her nightstand and swept five of them into a drawer while reaching for her cell phone.
Harumasa has four pinholes in his neck.
After that we can see the Inpatient Medical Record of Asaba Harumasa. the main contents of which are crossed out.
Asaba Harumasa wears a neck ornament. It's worth noting that in version 1.4 of Teaser, the production team said that the hairband on Harumasa's head, as well as the ornament around his neck, had a backstory.Harumasa already had the ornament around his neck when he was a child, but the hairband was on his master's head at the time.
When Harumasa looks in the mirror, there is a flash of Thanatos, the god of death in ancient Greek mythology, often seen as a representation of death. Thanatos is said to appear to people before they die; he will first cut off a small piece of the deceased's hair and present it to Hades, the king of the underworld, and then lead the deceased's soul into the underworld.
With Harumasa awakened, Harumasa stood in the middle of the intersection instead of the crosswalk.
All the passers-by have no faces, but the heads and cameras are invariably oriented towards Harumasa. there is a sense of being in plain sight when the passers-by have no eyes.
When a passerby calls Harumasa a monster, Harumasa subconsciously covers the pinhole in her neck that has been covered by the ornament.
Going into the battle scene, instead of humans surrounding Harumasa it's the Ethereal instead. instead, does this mean that in the human perspective Harumasa is actually the Ethereal. Notably, the Ethereal is also not standing in the crosswalk, seemingly echoing Harumasa.
With a transition, Harumasa has a needle stuck in the back of his neck and is injected with a potion-like liquid, Harumasa begins to turn into Ethereal and the background color changes to the rainbow colors of the Ether. Notably, Harumasa's two pupils are different colors in the close-up.
2. The Second Woke Up
Harumasa woke up for the second time, and it was still July 18th. But the curtains had been drawn and the sound of the thunderstorm had disappeared.
Same nightstand view, but the pills in the drawer have disappeared and the position of the pills on the cabinet with the pill bottles has changed.
The photo on the Inpatient Medical Record on the bedside table turned out to be Harumasa as a child.
Harumasa looks in the mirror again and the words "Look closer.... . it's YOU" appears on the mirror. The scene then changes to black and white, and the white crow appears again. The camera then switches from the child to Harumasa, implying that the child is Harumasa.
The subsequent close-up of the child's pupils also suggests that the child is Harumasa, with a high degree of similarity in both pupil color and size. Is the fact that Harumasa is wearing a yellow turban as he walks towards the boy a hint that the Harumasa's master once wore a yellow turban as he walked towards Harumasa? But in the young boy's perspective it is Ethereal who is walking towards him. There are two possibilities; Harumasa becomes Ethereal, and his master in human form in Ethereal's viewpoint instead takes on the appearance of Ethereal. The other is that in the eyes of the teenage Harumasa, Harumasa's master becomes Ethereal.
As Ethereal approaches, we can clearly hear a cell phone ringing in the background sound.
3. Third Return to Room View
The view is once again back in the room, and the date is still July 18th. The mesh/guard on the window has disappeared and is gone, as if to suggest that Harumasa has left the "cage". At this point Harumasa is no longer in bed.
The photo on the Inpatient Medical Record on the nightstand went blank. The bottles and pills on the table disappeared.
At the end, the phone lights up with two new messages, "Happy Birthday" and "Congrats on making it this far", unlike the previous ones. First we learn that July 18th is Harumasa's birthday. Does the second message imply that Harumasa's human experimentation is over?
As the demo comes to an end, countless details are crammed into the minds of proxies. Is this the end of Harumasa's story? How much more do we not know about the members of H.S.O.S.6. What kind of creatures are the Ethereals, and why do Harumasa's memories tell us that humans can be transformed into Ethereals?
There are still countless unanswered questions in our minds about Hollow, what kind of shocking worldview will Asaba Harumasa bring us? Let's look forward to the update of version 1.4 of Zenless Zone Zero and solve the mystery of Asaba Harumasa!
