What is Thiren in Zenless Zone Zero?

hile becoming a legendary proxy, we also met many different species friends along the way. Among those thiren like Nekomiya Mana, Ben Bigger and others. They vary in appearance, some more human-like, others more animal-like. What kind of species were the Thirens?

1. First Encounter with Thiren in ZZZ

In the first chapter, proxy obtains a safe of unknown origin. When proxy is waiting for Nicole Demara line of people to come to investigate the origin of the safe, unexpectedly received a commission for help from the Cunning Hares. The person who commissioned the request was known as our new friend, Nekomiya Mana.

At this point, proxy met the first thiren which is a Feline Thiren exactly in Sixth Street.

2. What exactly are "Thirens" in Zenless Zone Zero?

The term "Thiren" derives from from the Ancient Greek term θήρ thḗr which is read as "Therium" means "beast"; it is possible it acts as a portmanteau of the Greek θήρ thḗr (beast) and the Chinese 人 rén (person) "beast person".

At the same time, Thiren shares the same root with Theria which means a subclass of Mammals, this might also be the inspiration for the term "Thiren".

Within this species, those individuals who are more human-like in appearance are widely named Thiren, such as Nekomata, Ellen, and new agents Jane Doe and Seth Lowell. Common features of these thirens include animal ears and a tail.

There are also subspecies of Thiren with more animal characteristics, which can be called Beast Thiren, such as Ben and Von Lycaon. Their appearance tends to be more of an anthropomorphic representation of a particular animal, often having the bone structure of an animal and a body that is adequately covered with hair.

3. Types and Abilities of ZZZ Thiren

In known episodes, Bear Thiren, Canine Thiren, Feline Thiren, and Fish Thiren have already appeared. The representative of Bear Thiren is Ben. Canine Thiren is represented by Lycaon. Fish Thiren is represented by Ellen. Feline Thiren is represented by Nekomata and Seth.

The interesting thing is that the lastest agent Jane Doe always calls herself Feline Thiren, but her animal characteristics are clearly those of a mouse.

In the record, Thirens had a strong ability in all aspects. For example, Thirens have great strength, are better able to adapt to hollows and can refill themselves faster.

Among them, Bear Thiren has the same physical characteristics as Beast Thiren. This makes them highly "ether ability". This feature makes them especially good at work and activities in the hollow. This also explains why Bear Thiren was the first choice for the hollow construction project. Bear Thiren accounts for about 80 percent of the employees at Belobog Heavy Industries.

Even in history, Bear Thiren has made great contributions to the field of space exploration. There were astronauts of Bear Thiren species who went into space, which also demonstrated Thiren's powerful ability.

4. Thiren Anecdotes in ZZZ

• Tail was particularly important and special for all Thirens. In the Thiren conception, only close friends should touch the tail. This is also shown in some of random events with Lycaon. Lycaon did not allow the little girl to touch his tail but the proxy touched it several times.
• Except Jane, Nekomata and other Thiren agents those are playable, there are many Thiren characters that we often meet on streets in Zenless Zone Zero, such as Asha from Goldfinger shop and Lucy's little boar Thirens known as the "Crimson Mane Guard".

As the story progresses, proxies will travel outside the city with the Sons of Calydon in the next version. In the trailer we will find more Thirens with different characteristics there.
