Zenless Zone Zero Hidden Mechanics: Threshold Analysis of Agents

by ZZZLucien 25 Feb 2025

As the versions of Zenless Zone Zero progress, more and more agents have joined our teams. However, some proxies may wonder: why can't my agents perform at their maximum potential? And why does Jane require 425 Anomaly Proficiency, while Burnice only needs 300 Anomaly Proficiency? In this article, we will unveil the mystery behind these questions.

Just as Hoshimi Miyabi has a hard requirement of 65% CRIT Rate, while Evelyn Chevalier only needs 55% CRIT Rate, these seemingly contradictory settings are all governed by a key mechanism: "Thresholds."

A threshold refers to the minimum or maximum value at which an effect can be produced, and it is also a mechanism that allows you to maximize the potential of your agents at the lowest cost. Now, let's take a look at the thresholds for all agents.

So, what do thresholds represent in Zenless Zone Zero? In the game, thresholds signify the critical point for attribute benefits-reaching the threshold triggers a qualitative change, while falling short results in diminished returns. For example, Evelyn requires an 80% CRIT Rate in actual combat to fully enjoy the 125% additional damage from her combo skills. The existence of thresholds also significantly influences our equipment choices and overall stats.

To help every Proxies understand thresholds, I will divide thresholds into the following two types:

  1. Universal Threshold: A threshold that applies to all agents. Currently, the only ones are 100% CRIT Rate and 0 Defense.
  2. Agent-Specific Threshold: A unique threshold that applies specifically to individual agents.

Currently, there aren't many agents with specific thresholds, but I will list them one by one and explain their exact functions. Additionally, I'll outline the stat requirements influenced by team composition and Mindscape effects.

1. Jane Doe's Stat Threshold

When Jane has 375 Anomaly Proficiency, her assault has a 100% CRIT Rate. In a frenzied state, Jane gains a maximum ATK bonus of 600 points with 420 Anomaly Proficiency.

The stat requirement is 375 Anomaly Proficiency, but 420 Anomaly Proficiency is preferable. When paired with Seth, the Anomaly Proficiency stat can be slightly reduced.

2. Burnice White's Stat Threshold

When Burnice has 300 anomaly mastery, it increases her Afterburn damage by 30%. Afterburn damage is Burnice's primary means of output.

3. Tsukishiro Yanagi's Stat Threshold

Yanagi stands out among the agents, as her threshold is primarily tied to her exclusive W-Engine. When the Yanagi's Anomaly Proficiency reaches 375, the agent's disorder damage is increased by 25%. Since the exclusive sound weapon provides nearly full coverage of 75 Anomaly Proficiency, Yanagi equipped with it only needs 300 Anomaly Proficiency to meet the requirement.

4. Hoshimi Miyabi's Stat Threshold

With an 80% CRIT Rate, Miyabi can increase her anomaly accumulation efficiency by 80%. For Miyabi with 0 or 1 Mindscape, the minimum stat requirement is 68% critical rate. Since Miyabi with Mindscape 2 gains an immediate 15% CRIT Rate boost upon entering combat, she only needs a base CRIT Rate of 65%.

5. Evelyn Chevalier's Stat Threshold

When Evelyn has an 80% CRIT Rate, the damage multiplier of her combo skills and ultimate skills increases to 125%. Since she provides herself with a 25% CRIT Rate boost during combat, her base critical rate only needs to be between 55% and 75%. This ensures her in-combat CRIT Rate is at least 80% but no more than 100%.

For the main DPS agents mentioned above, even after reaching their thresholds, you can still increase their output by stacking the corresponding stats, though the returns will be significantly lower compared to before reaching the threshold.

On the other hand, for some support characters, thresholds determine the upper limit of team buffs, and the actual numerical values are not the core focus. Once the threshold effect is achieved, there is no need to invest further resources to pursue higher stat values.

6. Lighter's Stat Threshold

The threshold Lighter needs to reach is 270 impact. Once achieved, Lighter can provide the entire team with a 75% increase in ice and fire damage.

Currently, Lighter's maximum stat panel can only reach 194 impact, so reaching 270 impact relies on in-combat boosts from W-Engine effects. At present, only the exclusive W-Engines of Lighter, Qingyi and Koleda can help Lighter reach the threshold during combat.

7. Astra Yao's Stat Threshold

When Astra reaches the threshold of 3429 attack power, she can provide her teammates with 1200 attack power. However, if Astra reaches mindscape 2, the threshold is lowered while providing her teammates with even higher ATK.

8. Soukaku's Stat Threshold

When Oukaku's ATK reaches 2500, she can provide her teammates with extra 1000 ATK.

9. Luciana de Montefio's Stat Threshold

When Lucy's ATK reaches 2000, she can provide the entire team with extra 600 ATK.
