A Must-See Guide for Zenless Zone Zero Beginners! Understand All Character Roles and USes in One Article!
Hello, all prospective Proxies. This guide aims to help you understand the roles and uses of all characters in Zenless Zone Zero quickly. Before we start, please note that the content is based on my personal research during the third test of Zenless Zone Zero, and the test results do not represent the final quality of the game. If there are any changes during the official release, please refer to the latest content.
Let's get straight to the point. To quickly grasp the roles of all characters, without considering personal preferences and focusing only on the official gameplay settings, you need to remember only two points: first, the core passive determines the character's role; second, the additional ability determine the character's team composition. Sounds simple, right? By mastering these two principles, even when new characters are released in the future, you will be able to quickly understand their abilities.
Here's an even simpler explanation. The core passive is easy to understand, even if you haven't played the game, you can probably guess its essence. But how do additional abilities determine team composition? The answer can be explained using terminology from Honkai: Star Rail: characters of the same Path have synergistic effects, and characters of the same Combat Type have synergistic effects. The Path in HSR equals to the Faction in ZZZ, and the Combat Type equals to the Attribute. If you're a Genshin Impact player unfamiliar with HSR, don't worry: regions lilke Liyue are analogous to factions like Cunning Hare, and the seven elements are similar to the five main attributes: Fire, Ice, Electric, Physical, and Ether. Thus, in Zenless Zone Zero, you can either form a team of three characters from the same faction for buffs, or three characters with the same attribute for buffs, or three characters from different factions but with compatible Fighting specialties, i.e., main DPS + sub DPS + support. The main DPS is responsible for the primary DMG dealing, the sub DPS creates conditions for main DPS and supplements DMG, and the support provides buffs, debuffs, etc..
By the end of the third test, Zenless Zone Zero had launched 15 agents, of which 7 were with Attack specialty, the official description is: "Agents with the Attack specialty can dish out immense amounts of damage, excelling at rapidly racking up damage directly through attacks to defeat enemies and bring the combat to a swift end", which we commonly refer to as main DPS.
There are 3 agents with Stun specialty, described as: "Agents with the Stun specialty possess powerful control abilities, excelling at building up Daze to cause enemies to be Stunned, thus creating opportunities for the squad to deal DMG", which we commonly refer to as sub DPS.
There is 1 agent with Defense specialty, such characters have strong survivability, excel at taking hits and counterattacking enemies, gaining an advantage in intense battles.
There are 3 agents with Support Specialty, described as: "Agents with Support specialty are able to aid and enhance other Agents in battle, excelling at buffing friendly units to improve the combat effectiveness of the whole squad", which can be understood as buffing support, providing buffs to allies.
The last agent is with Anomaly specialty, exceptional with applying debuffs, excelling at accumulating Anomaly Buildup to weaken enemies and deal DMG by triggering Attribute Anomalies.
Two points to be note: buffs target allies, debuffs target enemies, and whether it's buff or debuff, the ultimate result is increasing DMG to enemies.
With the theory in place, let's move on to practice.
First, let's look at Nekomata's Core Passive. According too the principle "coore passive determines the character's role", what is her role?
Answer: The core passive description indicates that the character's own DMG is increased, since it's self-damage increase, she must be a main DPS with Attack specialty.
Next, let's look at Von Lycaon. Based on "core passive determines the character's role", what is Lycaon's role?
Answer: Sub DPS.
Lastly, let's look at Soukaku. What role does she fit into?
Answer: Support.
You see, this article has helped you understand the basic roles of the characters. When the game is officially released, and you start researching advanced content, you'll definitely be ahead of the curve!
